When I look back at my journey in faith formation ministries, the church where I was brought up, the United Church of Christ in Keene, NH, served as the trailhead where I took these first steps. Rev. Robert Curry encouraged my best friend and I to attend summer camp at Horton Center, the NH Conference’s outdoor ministries site in the beautiful White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire. It was there that I experienced true Christian community, and years later as a Horton Center staff member, heard God’s call to faith formation ministries.

After graduating from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary) in Richmond, VA, I began my professional ministry as the Director of Christian Education in East Derry, NH. Four local churches and one conference position later, I was called to the Massachusetts Conference in 2017 and am very excited to continue this ministry in the Southern New England Conference as a Minister of Faith Formation. This September I will celebrate my 30th year as a Commissioned Minister in the United Church of Christ.

My passion within the ministry of faith formation is ensuring that the deep and spiritual faith experiences of young children are recognized, embraced, and welcomed by their congregations. These youngest members of the Body of Christ have much to teach us as they exhibit the pure faith and trust that Jesus tells us we must have to enter the kingdom of heaven.

I frequently find myself visiting the website for Practical Resources for Churches, a long-time ecumenical church resource center that read the handwriting on the wall several years ago and moved their ministry online. The Southern New England Conference has partnered with PRC to offer their high quality webinars to our local church leaders at no cost. I encourage you to visit their website to take advantage of the multitude of resources for practically every aspect of congregational life.

I am looking forward to working with this conference’s amazing staff, particularly our Discipleship Team, with a focus on Faith Formation (with Karen Ziel, Kristin Putney, and Debby Kirk) — long-time New England colleagues in ministry with me — to curate the best possible faith formation resources to meet the specific needs of each of your congregations. Please reach out and talk with me or any of us to help us to help you provide the best faith formation ministry possible for your congregation.
