Are you in your first 2 – 5 years in congregational leadership?  Do you feel you could use some new inspiration, spiritual refreshment, and intellectual stimulation?  Then I highly recommend that you consider applying for the Chautauqua Institution’s Interfaith, New Clergy Program.   Chautauqua is a unique place where approximately 10,000 people gather each week throughout a 9-week summer season to explore the contemporary worlds of religion, public life, the arts, and education.

I applied for and was accepted into, the 2015 New Clergy Leadership Program.  The program’s goal is "to build, enhance, challenge, and expand the leadership potential of the participants in both their local congregations and in their communities."  It is a week-long intensive with morning worship; lectures from world class scholars and writers; activities and discussion within the cohort; and unique access to many of the week’s religion speakers, key Religion department staff and Conference leadership.

The daily lecture theme the week that I attended was, "21st Century Literacies: Multiple Ways to Make Sense of the World" - the daily religion lecture theme was, "Interfaith Literacy."  Our cohort had the opportunity to meet with preacher-Joel Gregory and authors, Eboo Patel, John Hope Bryant, and Stephen Prothero, among others.  It was a very intensive educational and spiritually stimulating experience that still deeply informs my work as a Pastor and as a world citizen.

If you are accepted into the program, the Institution will provide full accommodations (housing, meals, gate passes) for clergy and their spouse or partner.  Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from Chautauqua.  Participants will reside on the Institution grounds, share meals, and enjoy the unique recreational and artistic setting of the Institution.

THE DEADLINE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 1, 2017.  Find an application here. Get that application in soon for a learning experience you will not forget!
