Why all the E-mailing changes?

If you are a regular reader of the Emailing, and some of our regional e-newsletters, you may have noticed some formatting changes over the last several weeks. Depending on what device you were using to read the email, those changes might have been positive or negative.

Let me take a moment to explain.

Studies show that the majority of emails received today are read on mobile devices. With that in mind, we have been working with Constant Contact, our email service provider, to change our e-newsletters over to a "mobile-friendly" template. The idea is to provide an e-newsletter that is attractive and readable no matter what device you are using to read it.

So far, our results have been mixed.  For example, those emails that look best on mobile devices have been rendering strangely in Outlook 2010, pushing content in the right column way down on the page and leaving a white space. On the flip side, those emails that look good in Outlook having small font sizes on an iPhone, making them harder to read.

We are continuing to work on this issue, to come up with the most user-friendly e-newsletter we can. Should I come up with that elusive solution to having an e-newsletter that looks great on any device, I will certainly share that solution with all of you who may be facing the same issues with your church newsletters.

In the meantime, I welcome your feedback. Let me know how you are experiencing the Emailing, but PLEASE be specific about what device or email program you are using to read it. You can post your comment below or send me an email at vailt@macucc.org
