The SNEUCC Environmental Ministry Team invites 21 congregations to commit to the Green Congregation Challenge - having an initial conversation or taking a first step by the end of '21. Congregations that pledge their intention will be offered periodic support from EMT members and staff. Join us today - sign up here!

Read on about one green congregation already working on Level One.

Church of the Covenant (Boston) is an SNEUCC Level One Green Congregation, and we are eager to tackle the next level or two! Our green team is called the Climate Jubilee Team - to express how seriously we take the intersectional nature of climate issues - and we have been very busy engaging our congregation during the pandemic.

One activity was an after-church educational forum with John Walkey of GreenRoots, Inc. in Chelsea. GreenRoots is an environmental activist organization fighting for healthy air, healthy water, etc., in the very polluted low-income town of Chelsea, also home to a large population of immigrants and other people of color.  As the pandemic restrictions lift, we hope to partner with this organization in more hands-on ways, but in the meantime we have been encouraging our congregants to contribute financially to their work.

Another indication of the way we understand climate issues is the new banner we have hung on our church steeple: Climate Jubilee: The Sacred Movement of Liberation for Racial and Eco-Justice.
