On Monday, May 24, 2021, we held a press conference regarding these initiatives at the State Capitol. Just as we finished, Governor Lamont happened to walk out the door to his car so we hand delivered the letter to him.
Healthcare should be a human right, yet there are those in Connecticut who cannot access quality affordable health care. It is a moral imperative that everyone have access to affordable, quality healthcare. Establishing a public option could help numerous Connecticut residents get the healthcare they need and deserve.
Budgets are moral documents and our healthcare system is primarily profit driven and out of line with our core values of equity, compassion and justice.
I urge Connecticut residents to call and email your State Senator, State Representative and Governor Lamont to support and sign into law SB 842 which would to take steps to expand Medicaid for working families to 201% of the Federal Poverty level and ensure our undocumented community can access healthcare. We also urge passage of Senate Bill 1 which will help make health care more equitable and affordable for all Connecticut residents.
